About the Organization

Avon Lane, located in Armonk, NY, is a Single Family Office seeking to hire an Investment Analyst. This role will directly report to the President and involve regular interaction with two family Principals. The mission of Avon Lane is to generate long-term investment returns that align with both the personal and philanthropic goals of the Gerstner family. The office is chaired by Louis V. Gerstner, Jr., former Chairman and CEO of IBM and former Chairman of the Carlyle Group. Avon Lane serves three generations of the Gerstner family and Gerstner Philanthropies. This role is in office five days a week.

Avon Lane manages diversified portfolios for family members, trusts, limited partnerships, and philanthropic entities, investing across all asset classes with a significant emphasis on private alternative assets. The investment team is responsible for asset allocation and manager selection, with final decisions approved by the investment committee. While most investment mandates are managed by external managers, core fixed income and specific equity investments are handled internally. Private equity investments are made through limited partnerships, with occasional direct investments. Additionally, Avon Lane collaborates with external specialists to incorporate estate planning and tax strategies. The Avon Lane team includes finance and accounting professionals who oversee portfolio reporting, tax, treasury and personal financial functions.

About the Position

Avon Lane is looking to add a new position to enhance our investment process and insights. The investment team is small, cohesive, and dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration, impact, and excellence. The ideal candidate will have experience in investment sourcing, due diligence, and monitoring across various asset classes including fixed income, equities, hedge funds, and alternatives such as private equity, real estate, private credit, growth, and venture capital. Experience executing against a strategic asset allocation is preferred. This position is ideal for someone passionate about investing, aiming to serve as a strategic generalist, and eager to apply their skills and network to generate long-term returns for the family’s personal and philanthropic objectives.


· Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research, synthesize findings, and report to the investment committee on emerging topics of interest. Recommend strategic approaches and managers to implement thematic investment ideas.

· Market Insights: Generate monthly market insights relevant to family office investments and present these findings to the investment committee both regularly and on an ad-hoc basis.

· Diligence and Monitoring: Diligence and provide recommendations on new opportunities across asset classes. Engage in regular update calls with managers and produce concise written summaries of key developments. Attend annual manager meetings, requiring travel for 2-3 weeks per year. Monitor current exposures and recommend strategic tilts or changes.

· Relationship Management: Foster and maintain strategic relationships with key partners in investment, tax, and legal sectors.

· Peer Collaboration: Cultivate and sustain a network of peers within the family office sector to share best practices and insights.

· Portfolio Reporting: Collaborate with the CFO to produce accurate and timely monthly portfolio reports.

· Technology Oversight: Monitor and assess software and technological tools to enhance decision-making processes and analytical capabilities.

· Investment Structuring: Work closely with the finance team and legal counsel to structure direct investment opportunities and complete investment subscriptions documents.

Candidate Requirements

· Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications such as an MBA, CFA or JD preferred.

· Professional Experience: A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in the finance sector, with a preference for candidates who have broad based asset allocation experience and background in private investments in a family office setting or working with UHNW clients.

· Analytical Proficiency: Demonstrated sound judgment and a robust track record of analyzing new investment opportunities. Comfortable working with and interpreting large data sets. Experience with AI tools a plus.

· Communication Skills: Proven excellence in both written and verbal communication, capable of conveying complex information clearly and persuasively.

· Team Collaboration: A collaborative work style is essential, with a keen interest in contributing to an entrepreneurial environment that values minimal bureaucracy and a strong team ethic.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $200K-$250K, commensurate with experience. This role is eligible for an annual performance bonus based on contributions and impact. In addition to compensation, Avon Lane provides a suite of competitive benefits that include health,
